Our Creative Curriculum

At Longhorsley C of E First School we  provide an outstanding curriculum which has been carefully planned to meet the needs of all of our learners. In partnership with the children we have developed a programme of innovative, creative and exciting themes; a curriculum for the 21st Century. A variable mixture of whole school topics, mini projects and themed weeks motivates the children and gives them enthusiasm for their learning. The children are actively involved in the shaping of our curriculum in each year’s topics, which allows them ownership of their learning.  We work alongside our Federation Partner, Whalton C of E Primary School. This allows staff to plan exciting projects together across the schools and gives the children the opportunity to meet up for special events.  Please see our 'Class Learning Journeys and Class Newsletters,' for more detailed information on our current topics.

As much as possible, we create opportunities to bring our individual subjects to life and bring the wider world into our small rural classrooms.  Examples of visitors/visits have included:  Professor Brainstorm to inspire Science, STEM representatives, travelling Theatre Companies, Visits to the Theatre, Multi Faith Religious Representatives, Environmental Groups, Charities to name a few.

Please contact your class teacher or Mrs Campbell, if you have any queries related to our Curriculum or ways you could support our children in their learning.
