Admissions

Main School Admissions

The Governing Body of The Federation of Longhorsley & Whalton Church of England Voluntary Aided Schools is the Admissions Authority for the school and they have admitted 19 pupils to the Reception year group in Longhorsley St Helen's First School in September 2021.  This arrangement follows consultation between the Governing Body, the Local Authority, all other schools in the area and all other Admission Authorities in the area.  The school is open to receive applications for admissions from the parents of all children.

When is a child required to start school?

The School Admissions Code requires school admission authorities to provide for the admission of all children in the September following their fourth birthday.  However, a child is not required to start school until they have reached compulsory school age following their fifth birthday.  For summer born children (those born after 1st April) this is almost a full school year after the point at which they could first be admitted.

Some parents may feel their child is not ready to start school in the September following their fourth birthday.  You can decide either that your child attends part-time until he/she reaches compulsory school age, or that the date your child is admitted to school is deferred until later in the same academic year, or that the date your child is admitted to school is deferred until the term after he/she reaches their fifth birthday when they must attend school full time.

Nursery Admissions

Parents may register their child at any time by completing an application form available from the School office by telephone, email or visit, or download the form below.   There are three intake periods each year, in September (Autumn term), January (Spring term) and April (Summer term).  Children join our Nursery in the term after their third birthday and we offer 15 hours - five three hour sessions - over the week during term time.  When we have your application on our system, and near the end of the term prior to when your child is due to commence, we will invite you to one of our open sessions to give you the opportunity to meet the staff, see around our Early Years Foundation Stage unit, and give out further information and necessary documentation.

If, in the meantime, you require any further information, please don't hesitate to contact Mrs Fox in the school office.
