Our Curriculum

We are currently reviewing how our curriculum is constructed to ensure that the quality of education we provide continues to be the very best.

At Longhorsley, we aim to inspire academic aspiration, a love of learning, self belief and the desire to exceed expectations.

‘Aspire...Believe...Achieve to be the very best we can be'

Our school's current curriculum is planned and sequenced using units; a variable mixture of whole school themes, projects and specialist days/weeks, motivating the children and helping them to make links in their learning.  We use the school's local context as much as possible to create opportunities to bring our individual subjects to life and bring the wider world into our smaller rural classrooms.  We have strong Partnership links with our neighbouring schools in Morpeth and actively work alongside our Federated school to ensure our small school 'thinks big' to offer a broader variety of experiences, with the opportunity to create new relationships and broaden friendship groups.

At ‘The Federation of Longhorsley and Whalton C of E Schools,’ we understand that children learn best when their interests are harnessed in a positive, safe and secure learning environment.  Strong Christian Core Values are inter-woven through our curriculum providing integrity to the substance of our children’s learning.

Assessment outcomes are important to us, in the context of what is being taught and remembered and we have high expectations for our children.  However, we recognise that all children come from different starting points academically, socially and experientially.  Therefore, we consider each and every one of our children individually, celebrate their uniqueness and aspire to plan and support their distinctive journeys through our schools.

Our broad curriculum intent is to provide the building blocks, experiences and tools for our children, preparing them for the next stage of their education.

At the end of their time with us, we hope that your children will be happy, confident, well rounded individuals who embrace challenge; see mistakes as learning opportunities; are compassionate to others; care for the environment; understand how to keep themselves safe in a busy and complex world and have the tools to manage personal and social citizenship.
